Long Beach, NY September 23rd, 2009 - Falling leaves. Trick-or-treating. Surfing. That’s right, surfing. Surprisingly, October is known on Long Island for being one of the best surfing months of the year, so join us in Long Beach for “Surftober”. The water is still warm. The waves are at their best. And wetsuits are optional. Just take the Long Island Rail Road to the Long Beach stop and be prepared for some serious surf at National Beach.
Long Beach Surf Shop is located directly across the street from the rail station. Get your high-end surfboard rentals and gear, as well as information on instructional sessions and tips on where to catch the best waves. Equally helpful and also in Long Beach is the Unsound Surf Shop. Unlike their name, their inventory and advice is very sound. But Long Beach isn’t the only place “surf’s up” in Nassau County. Bellmore boasts the Ahloe Cal Cruz Surf Shop. There’s the RVC Surf and Skate Shop in Rockville Centre, and the Atlantic Beach Surf Shop in Atlantic Beach. And in Levittown, you’ll find the Sundown Ski and Surf Shop with just about everything you need to ride the waves.
And the surf’s not the only thing that’s up this fall in Nassau County, The Island of Possibilities. We’re home to world-class shopping, restaurants, and museums. Not to mention Gold Coast mansions, exciting fairs and festivals, quaint villages and spectacular fishing and boating. You’ll also discover a wide range of outdoor escapes, such as at Sands Point Preserve, where you can trek through forests and meadows to the beach and cliffs. Like golf? It’s all right here. From beginners pitch and put to Bethpage Black, home of the 2009 U.S. Open.
So come for the day. Or stay overnight. And remember, October is “Surftober” on Long Island.
