Posted on Tuesday, September 08, 2009

MINEOLA, September 8th -- As part of its initiative to encourage more visitors to enjoy Nassau County’s many attractions, the Nassau County Industrial Development Agency has redesigned its tourism website, theislandnextdoor.com, with an engaging interactive visitors’ guide, a map, photos, and insiders’ tips on beaches, surfing, fishing, museums, mansions, shopping and more.

The redesigned site, with stunning photos of the county’s beaches, golf courses, villages, harbors, Gold Coast mansions, museums and boutiques is a one-stop resource for visitors (and residents) on how to get the most from Long Island’s close-in county, just 17 miles from Manhattan, and blessed with great natural and man-made resources.

The site contains a 32-page, information-packed, photo-filled visitors’ guide, where people can actually “turn the page” electronically, or download the guide as a PDF for printing. It also includes a calendar, listing and details upcoming events such as the Cowboy Mounted Shooting Championship at Old Bethpage Village Restoration, a guided nature walk on the Muttontown Preserve, a free concert at the Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary & Audubon Center in Oyster Bay, a fishing clinic at Jones Beach, a Warhol exhibit at Hofstra University and a celebration of French art under Napoleon at the Nassau County Museum of Art.

Coming soon, a photo tour of Nassau County Attractions, email alerts to upcoming events and programs, as well as new features appearing on a monthly basis.

The site will also post promotional codes for special rates at area hotels, where guests can enjoy substantial savings on room rates.
