Some of the best golf in the world is right here in Nassau County, where courses for players at all skill levels are open to the public.
Bethpage State Park has five courses including Bethpage Black, home of the U.S. Open in 2002 and 2009. In 2002 the Black Course became the first publicly owned and operated course to host the U.S. Open. Its narrow fairways and high roughs have been the scourge of many of the game’s best-known players. Eisenhower Park in East Meadow boasts three more courses. A favorite of many is the famed Red Course. Recently home to the PGA Champions Tour-Commerce Bank Championship, it was named one of Golf Digest’s “Four Stars – Best Places To Play 2008/2009”. Eisenhower Park also has a driving range with 60 bays to hone your skills.
The County also operates four executive-level nine-hole golf courses – at Christopher Morely Park in Roslyn-North Hills, Cantiague Park in Hicksville, Bay Park in East Rockaway and North Woodmere Park in North Woodmere. All offer golfers a real challenge. And when the weather is challenging, Cantiague has 18 covered stalls to keep it at bay.
There are numerous other places to lower your handicap. They include the Glen Cove Golf Course in Glen Cove, Lido Golf Course in Lido Beach, Peninsula Golf Course in Massapequa, Merrick Road Park Golf Course in Merrick, Harbor Links in Port Washington and the Town of Oyster Bay Golf Course in Woodbury. If you’re looking for great golf, Nassau County is your link.
